Friendly robin

We have a friend, a very friendly robin. Bird fud on bird table & in feeder all gone in 24 hours. Pigeons are the prime suspects.....

Day 1

Image
First day on the allotment  & lots happening. Peter started the big clear up & I dug over 2 of the raised beds. Planted some seed potatoes I got free from Greens Nursery. Right at the end of their selling period. Planted them in a pot last week & seem to be doing ok, if a little late for planting. Also French & broad beans, pak chi, a courgette & a pumpkin plant. In the poly tunnel I have a chili pepper & a plumb tomato plant. Also uncovered a sort of patio & there is a bird table standing nicely on this. Great because a robin has been supervising us all morning. Next job is the foundations for the shed. The shed I managed to get of Sale or Swap thanks to eagle-eyed Big Bloomers! £40 but needs new window panes. Gordo took it down for me & dodging the wasps from their best, transported it to the allotment. Magic sand & paving slabs arriving Tuesday lunchtime. What a star is that Gordo. So base digging Monday pm.

Dot's Maids of Honour cakes

Image
Handover day on the allotment. Met Dot, the previous allotment holder and had a walk around the plot. Great blackcurrant, redcurrent bushes and raspberry canes, 2 well established apple trees and a jostaberry bush (no idea  what to do with the fruit of this). There's rhubarb and strawberry  plants.  Plenty of herbs particular sage & I think lemon balm. Dot was lovely to meet. Not a believer in straight lines unlike the military percision of some plot holders and liked informal planting...nice and refreshing attitude and one we'll subscribe to, too.  A very sunny  plot and no specific pests. The plot comes with a wee plot in a shared pollytunnel although Dot's neighbour is using this this year. I have agreed for my tomato plant to have a space though. In order  to seal the deal coffee/tea and homemade Maids of Honour cakes were taken on the communal picnic bench in the brilliant sunshine. The plot's all ours now......
